How to make a great soap line sheet

Structuring a soap line sheet

On a soap line sheet, show bars in scent families (herbal, floral, unscented, seasonal) so a store can build a balanced shelf. Each bar needs its cured weight, process, scent source, wrap type, minimum (usually a dozen), wholesale per bar and MSRP. Give bath products and accessories their own section, and list the mixed-dozen option prominently since it is how many shops place their first order.

Typical soap wholesale terms

Handmade soap is usually sold by the dozen with a $150–$250 opening order, close to keystone pricing. Many makers offer a mixed dozen across scents so a store can test the range. Give the cured weight and a best-by guide; most cold-process bars are at their best within 12–18 months.

What soap buyers look for

Soap buyers care about cure, scent strength and shelf presentation. Boutiques want bars that are banded or boxed so customers can smell them without handling, and a consistent bar weight. Say whether bars are cold process, hot process or melt and pour, because buyers price and position these differently.

FAQ

Soap line sheet questions

How do I show seasonal soaps on a line sheet?

Mark them with a seasonal badge and an order-by date, or put them on their own page at the back. Stores plan seasonal displays months ahead, so the dates matter more than the scent descriptions.

How much should handmade soap cost wholesale?

Many makers wholesale a 4–5 oz bar at $3–$4.50 with a retail price of $7–$9, close to keystone. Check your full cost per bar, including labor and packaging, before setting it; the margin calculator helps.

Should a line sheet show retail prices?

Show both: the wholesale price is what the buyer pays you, and the MSRP (suggested retail price) tells them their margin at a glance. Most boutiques expect at least a 2x markup, so a sheet with both numbers answers their first question before they have to email you.
