Tips

How to make a great clothing line sheet

Structuring a clothing line sheet

Lay out a clothing line sheet by delivery first, then by category, so a buyer can see what lands in August separately from what lands in October. Each style block needs the style number, fabric and weight, size range, colorways as small swatches, wholesale, MSRP and the minimum per color. Repeat the start-ship and cancel dates in the header of each delivery so a page torn out of the sheet still makes sense.

Typical clothing wholesale terms

Expect prebook orders 4–6 months ahead of the season with start-ship and cancel dates, plus a smaller at-once (in-stock) program. Common minimums are a $500–$1,000 opening order and a size run per color, often 6 or 12 units. Many brands take a deposit on prebook orders and offer net 30 to established stores.

FAQ

Clothing line sheet questions

Should each colorway get its own line on an apparel line sheet?

Usually no. Keep one block per style and show colorways as swatches with their color codes. Give a color its own block only when it has a different price, delivery or minimum.

How many styles should a clothing line sheet include?

Every style in the collection, one block per style with its colorways. Small brands typically show 15–40 styles grouped by delivery or category (tops, knitwear, bottoms, outerwear) so a buyer can plan an assortment.

Do I need size runs on my line sheet?

Yes. State the size range per style and whether buyers must order a full run. A pack like 1-2-2-1 (S-M-L-XL) is a common boutique minimum.

Should a line sheet show retail prices?

Show both: the wholesale price is what the buyer pays you, and the MSRP (suggested retail price) tells them their margin at a glance. Most boutiques expect at least a 2x markup, so a sheet with both numbers answers their first question before they have to email you.
