Tips

How to make a great wine price list

Units, tiers and updates on a wine price list

A wine price list for trade buyers should read like a wine list: grouped by style (white, rosé, red, sparkling, dessert), with vintage, varietal, region, bottle size, price per bottle and price per case. Show case discounts in a line under each section, list large formats separately, and include the effective date and a tax and duty note at the bottom.

Fields to show on a wine price list

Wine, vintage, varietal or blend, appellation, ABV, bottle size, case size, cases produced or available, price per bottle and per case, case-quantity discounts, and awards only if they are real.

FAQ

Wine price list questions

Should a wine price list show bottle or case prices?

Both. Restaurants compare per-bottle cost, but they order by the case. A bottle column and a case column, plus the discount tiers, cover both.

What goes on a wine trade price list?

Wine, vintage, varietal, region, ABV, bottle size, case size, availability and price per bottle and per case, plus volume discounts and whether taxes or duty are included.

Can a winery send its price list directly to restaurants?

It depends on where you are. In the US many states require sales through a licensed distributor while some allow self-distribution. Check the rules in each market before you sell direct.

How often should I update my price list?

Reissue it whenever costs move enough to change a price, and at least once a year. Always print an effective date at the top so buyers know which version they are holding; with an online catalog link they always see the current one.
