Tips

How to make a great shoe lookbook

Sequencing a shoe lookbook

Shoes look best in a lookbook when the camera sits low: walking shots, steps, cobbles, a crossed ankle at a café. Alternate those with tight details of stitching and soles, and keep the trouser and hem styling consistent so the shoe stays the hero. Caption each image with the style name, number and color in the order they appear, matching the line sheet.

What shoe buyers look for

Shoe buyers order by size curve, so the most useful thing on your sheet is the size range per style, any width options and the curve you recommend (for example women's EU 36–41 at 1-2-3-3-2-1). Say how each style fits: true to size, runs small, or half a size large. Fit notes cut returns more than any photo.

FAQ

Shoe lookbook questions

Should I shoot every colorway for a shoe lookbook?

No. Shoot the lead colorway of each style in the lookbook and show the other colors on the line sheet. A few side-by-side color shots for the strongest styles are enough.

How do I handle reorders of single sizes?

Say it on the sheet. Many brands allow size breaks on reorders of stocked styles with a small minimum (for example 4 pairs), which stops stores running out of their best sizes.

Do lookbooks include prices?

Usually not on every page. A lookbook sells the mood and styling; prices and minimums live on the line sheet. Many brands put style numbers on each look and send the line sheet alongside, or add a compact price index at the back.
