Tips

How to make a great chocolate line sheet

Structuring a chocolate line sheet

Lay out a chocolate line sheet by collection (bars, bonbons, seasonal, baking, gifts) and show each bar's wrapper front-on. List cocoa percentage, origin, net weight, allergens, shelf life, case pack and both prices. Seasonal items, such as Valentine's or holiday boxes, need their own page with the prebook deadline, and a note on insulated summer shipping belongs in the footer.

Typical chocolate wholesale terms

Bars usually ship in cases of 10–12 at about 50% of retail, with a $200–$300 opening order. Many makers pause shipping or require insulated shipping in summer; say so. Holiday and Valentine's collections need prebook deadlines 6–10 weeks ahead.

What chocolate buyers look for

Chocolate buyers ask about origin, cacao percentage, shelf life and heat. Specialty grocers and gift shops like a range of bars at one price point for a tidy shelf, and seasonal boxes ordered well ahead of holidays. Show the full allergen picture, including may-contain statements for nuts and milk.

FAQ

Chocolate line sheet questions

Should cocoa percentage go on a chocolate line sheet?

Yes. Cocoa percentage and origin are the first things shops and customers compare, and they explain price differences between bars.

How long does craft chocolate last?

Dark bars typically carry a 12–18 month best-before when stored cool and dry; filled bonbons are much shorter, often 2–6 weeks. Put both on your line sheet.

Should a line sheet show retail prices?

Show both: the wholesale price is what the buyer pays you, and the MSRP (suggested retail price) tells them their margin at a glance. Most boutiques expect at least a 2x markup, so a sheet with both numbers answers their first question before they have to email you.
